Take Your Photography to New Heights

Join Mid Sussex Camera Club. Discover What You Can Achieve

Uncertainty over Covid 19 means we cannot know if speakers and judges will wish to attend us in Burgess Hill when their booked date arrives, or which members will wish to attend live meetings. So, building a robust program for live events is challenging. Consequently, all competitions, talks, and members' evenings are being held online for the season to the end of April 2022. We are working on an approach to mixing live and Zoom meetings for the season starting in September 2022.

Are you a photographer wishing to develop your photographic skills? You may be just starting out in photography or you may be a seasoned enthusiast.  Wherever you are in your journey, if you want to develop your interest, we may be the place for you. We are a friendly & inclusive group of people who share a passion for taking photographs.

The club is based in Burgess Hill. We meet on Monday evenings, from 7:45 pm to 10 pm, September to April. For the season 2021/22, all club Monday evenings are planned to be online via Zoom. Membership for the season costs £30.

The club offers many photography related activities, as well as some purely social events. All activities are optional so members can opt to take part in those elements of the programme that interest them. Activities include:

External Speakers

We invite photographers accomplished in their chosen genre to talk around a selection of their images with the purpose of allowing us to learn the 'How and the Why'.

Internal Workshops

Each season we devote some evenings to internal events where we share knowledge and technical skills. These evenings have featured image mounting, post-processing, portraiture, and close-up photography.

External Competitions

MSCC is affiliated to the Sussex Photographic Federation (SxPF), The Surrey Photographic Association (SPA), The Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) and The Regnum Crouch Group. These provide access to competitions each year, giving members' images a wider audience and a higher level of competition.

External Events

During the summer months small group outings are arranged with a member with knowledge of a particular photography location, for example Pulborough Brooks. In the main these outings are mid-week, with the occasional weekend event.

Monthly Competitions

There are six ranking competitions each season, scored by an external judge, the results of which are cumulative on a league table basis. Competitions are for both projected and printed images. The leagues are split into ability classes.

Standalone Competitions

During each season there are several 'standalone' competitions which have outright winners based on the individual images submitted for that competition. These are judged by an external judge. Themes usually include 'Sussex', 'Nature', or 'Panel'. The finale of the season is the 'Picture of the Year' competition.

Inter club Competitions

We take part in competitions with several local clubs. The main event is with the ten co-member clubs of the Regnum Crouch Group. This allows MSCC to pitch our best Digital and Print images against these clubs. There are two competitions, one Digital, one Print.

Each December there is a 'shoot out' contest with Crawley and East Grinstead Camera Clubs. The purpose of this event is to have fun in a photographic environment.

Just For Members

The website Members' Area is a rich collection of information including 'how to', 'where to' and 'when to' documents, notices and recordings of external speaker lectures. Access requires that you log in as a member.
